Western Cape Police Commissioner Mzwandile Petros has said he plans to introduce more aggressive crime fighting initiatives in coming months.

The release of the latest crime figures shows a decrease in several serious crimes in the Cape.

Petros wants to build on the success of his war room.

Based at their headquarters in Cape Town, it focuses on combating serious and violent crime such as rape and murder.

Petros said it is thanks to the war room that there has been marked reduction in murders, car hijackings and sexual offences in the Cape.

He said another such initiative will be launched next year which will see close ties being formed with other law enforcement bodies.
