The Health Department says it is doing all it can to increase the supply of antiretroviral drugs to state hospitals and clinics.
Several health facilities have been hit by a shortage of ARVs.
Officials say they will now approach the National Treasury for more funds to help increase supply of the anti-aids drugs.
State clinics and hospitals affected by the shortage have been urged to notify the Health Department as soon as possible.
"The majority of those problems have to do with issues of budget, a matter we are taking up with affected provinces as well as National Treasury and donor funding," said spokesperson Fidel Hadebe.
