Cape Town traffic services said it has added more members to its 'Ghost Squad' unit.

An additional 10 traffic officials have joined the highly trained team.

The squad which was introduced in July patrols in unmarked vehicles on the city's roads.

The unit was established to clamp down on errant drivers, speedsters and drag racers.

Traffic spokesperson Merle Lourens said: "They have been doing very well on weekends. They would actually go out to the drag racing issues and they have made quite a lot of arrests already and they have also increased their team ? they've got an extra 10 members on the team."

The team has arrested more than 200 motorists and issued about 3000 fines and Lourens remarked that they are clamping down on offenders.
