The father of a South African man who has been arrested in Cambodia for manslaughter says his son will probably remain behind bars for the rest of this week.

Andre Bester and his friend Paul Hutchins were enjoying a beach holiday in the Asia country when their jet skis collided. Hutchins died in the crash and Bester was subsequently taken into custody.

His case came before the country's courts on Tuesday.

Bester's father Jan says the defence team is still trying to secure the young man's release.
