President Jacob Zuma is expected to officially confirm Judge Sandile Ngcobo as the country's new chief justice on Thursday after current Chief Justice Pius Langa said goodbye to the court on Wednesday.

Three other Constitutional Court judges are also retiring this month.

Ngcobo was a shoe-in for the job since he was nominated by Zuma despite having to undergo a Judicial Service Commission interview.

Justice Minister Jeff Radebe said those proceedings went well.

There is no word yet on when Zuma will announce the four new Constitutional Court judges.
