Teazers owner Lolly Jackson will pay athletics world champion
Caster Semenya R20 000 because of a row over a Teazers "gender
testing" billboard, The Star reported on Thursday.
"I work with 300 women everyday of my life and I think she's been hard done by by the people supposed to be looking after her and as Teazer's will donate R20 000 for the cause."
"The problem with the entire situation is someone innocent has
been drawn in, and therefore, just like we reward our athletes, we
would like Caster to enjoy her success rather than the negativity
that has followed her," Jackson told the paper.
"Ultimately, she brought home gold, and if it was not for
mismanagement, [she] would not be embroiled in this saga."
Teazers currently has a billboard in Rivonia Road in Sandton
with a naked woman lying on her back accompanied by the words, "No need for gender testing!".
The Advertising Standards Authority has received several complaints about the billboard.
Semenya was sent for gender tests after winning the 800 gold
medal at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin earlier this
year, sparking unsourced media reports out of Australia that she
was a hermaphrodite.
