Motorists who use the N1 between Pretoria and Johannesburg on Friday called for tough action to be taken against a driver who ran over a construction worker in Midrand on Friday morning.

Police arrested the man who claims he was running late for work.

He was driving in a blocked off construction lane between the New Road and Allandale off-ramps in a bid to make up some time.

His car has also been impounded.

He knocked down the construction worker, leaving him with neck injuries and a broken leg.

Motorists say the courts must make an example of the motorist so others do not try the same.
