Police say the motive behind a shooting at the home of Johannesburg transport mayoral committee member Rehana Moosajee is still being investigated.

A security guard was shot and wounded when two men tried to gain entry to Moosajee's Crosby property on Wednesday night.

Moosajee and her family were home at the time but none of them were hurt.

Officials will not be drawn on whether Moosajee's involvement in the controversial Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project is linked to the shooting.

Days after Johannesburg's BRT system, Rea Vaya, was launched two people were shot and wounded while travelling on a bus in Soweto.

Before the launch of the new bus system some taxi operators said they would resort to violence to stop it from going ahead.

Members of the taxi industry, many of whom have now agreed to work with government on the project, were concerned the introduction of the system would cripple their businesses.

The police's Eugene Opperman says officers are hunting for the gunmen who targeted Moosajee?s home.

"The two men made off but they didn't take anything as far as we know. At this time there are no arrests and the investigation is continuing," says Opperman.

The City of Johannesburg's Lisa Seftel says the incident has been traumatic for Moosajee and her family.
