State Security Minster Siyabonga Cwele says intelligence operations will continue without disruption, despite their restructuring into a single state security agency.

On Friday, Cwele announced that under the new structure Mo Shaik will run the South African Secret Service, while Liso Njenje will head up the National Intelligence Agency.

The minister said intelligence operatives working in the field will not be affected by the re-organisation of the country's intelligence community.

"I call on all members of the intelligence community to participate fully in this process so that we manage this change speedily."

Cwele sais the creation of a single department, with the NIA and SASS working in a more integrated manner, will centralise command and control.

He said the two organisations will share a director general to create greater efficiency.

2010 World Cup will be safe

The minister also said the country's intelligence services are working closely with other organisations to ensure the safety fans, tourists, players and officials during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Cwele said even though there are no known threats to the world cup, security will be tightened to ensure it remains that way.
