Police officials are investigating the death of a Goodwood man after he apparently fell asleep with a lit cigarette in a car.

Twenty-year-old Lee Steyn's body was found on the back seat of his parent's burnt-out Land Rover on Sunday morning.

The vehicle was parked in his parents' driveway at the time of the incident.

Superintendent Andre Traut said initial report suggested he fell asleep with the cigarette still lit.

"Police have renewed the vehicle to stay in overnight. The fire was caused probably by a cigarette but that is under investigation."
