Eskom says the longer days and warmer weather of summer will not really help it deliver a stable supply of electricity.

The utility made it through winter without any enforced power outages (or load-shedding, as Eskom calls it). But at times the power grid was reportedly under pressure.

Eskom says although its electricity reserves have also shrunk it is able to cope with the daily peak in demand.

The parastatal's Andrew Etzinger says the warmer months will not ease the pressure on them.

"During summer, [there is] low demand but a lot of maintenance. It means that there's less generation available. During winter there's high demand and less maintenance, so unfortunately we can't say that summer gives us any easier time than winter."
