A Delft father, who allegedly beat his daughter to death with an electric cord, claims he just wanted to teach her a lesson.

Patrick Mpokeli is applying for bail in the Bellville Magistrates Court.

He has been accused of killing his 15-year-old daughter in August, after he learnt she was bunking school.

Mpokeli confirmed that he did not want to kill his daughter, only teach her a lesson. But the court heard that she was lashed with an electric cord for more than four hours.

The accused sat in the dock showing little emotion, keeping his head down as a police official described what had happened in August.

According to police the accused went to fetch his daughter at the soccer field and confronted her about not attending school.
