The police have been clamping down on dog fighting in the Cape Peninsula.

The SPCA says it hopes that, after being arrested for the third time, a dog fight organiser will be locked up for good.

In 2007, Wayne Browers was arrested twice for organised dog fighting. He pleaded guilty and was fined ten thousand rand.

Twenty-four-year-old Browers was taken into custody again this week.

Browers, who was banned from owning animals, was re-arrested after SPCA investigators discovered he owned three pitbulls who all had visible bite marks on their bodies.

The SPCA?s Alan Perrins says he wants lawmakers to throw the book at Browers.

"We will not tolerate organised dog fighting in this country and I think we need to set a precedent and he is the first of a number of arrests to follow," he said.

The SPCA says it is currently investigating over 100 pitbull owners, trainers, or breeders who are all alleged to be a part of dog fighting syndicates in the province.
