A 33-year-old Strand police constable was arrested for fraud after he allegedly purchased alcohol with a stolen credit card, Western Cape police said on Saturday.
Constable Suzan Jantjies said the officer was arrested in Somerset West around 4pm on Friday.
While buying R8000 worth of liquor, the store manager established that the card was stolen and immediately alerted police.
The officer fled in a silver Nissan Navara, when he saw police arriving at the store.
The car was found abandoned nearby and the officer was later arrested.
He was expected to appear in the Somerset West Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Jantjies said disciplinary action would be taken against him.
