Alexandra Clinic staff members and patients say they fear professionals will refuse to work there after a social worker was killed outside the premises on Wednesday.
Twenty four-year-old Bianca Warburton was gunned down by two men, who tried to steal her car, as she was driving out the Johannesburg clinic.
She drove for a few metres before she died behind the wheel. Warburton was close to completing her Master's degree in psychology.
Alexandra residents say they are worried that social workers, who are committed to helping mothers and babies at the local clinic, will be too scared to work there.
A woman, who worked with Warburton, says students are going to be too afraid to come into the townships.
"Who is going to come to this clinic to help us in a black disadvantaged community," she says.
Police are still searching for the suspects who managed to escape on foot.
