Winnie Madikizela-Mandela says the entire country must show their support for Caster Semenya and must help her family through a difficult time.

She has spoken about how the family has been affected by Semenya’s gender controversy saying her parents have been particularly traumatised.

The ruling party is also asking the IAAF to apologise to Semenya and the entire country for its part in the saga.

Madikizela-Mandela says it has been very difficult for Semenya.

"This little girl has proved herself to be a girl and you can understand the circumstances under which this whole thing has happened," says Madikizela-Mandela.
