President Jacob Zuma says the scourge surrounding race and ethnicity continues to plague South Africans.
Zuma addressed members of the faith community at the home of Anglican Archbishop Thabo Makgoba in Bishops Court on Saturday.
The meeting forms part of the president's fact-finding mission in the Western Cape.
Zuma says there are perceptions that racism is still rife in the province.
"We are the same; we are all made in the image of God. We differentiate ourselves and make ourselves that we are different people, when we are actually the same," Zuma said.
He has called on the religious society to help address the issue in all communities.
