Axed Ekurhuleni metro police Chief Robert McBride says he is extremely frustrated by the continued delays in his drunken driving trial.
His case was postponed to next year on Monday, after the defence asked the Pretoria Magistrate's Court to recall three of the state's witnesses.
Magistrate Peet Johnson, whose court room was damaged by a fire earlier this month, refused to let the matter continue because the fires caused a massive backlog in cases which first had to be dealt with.
McBride says the blaze, as well as a break-in in Johnson's office last year, might be more than just co-incidence
"There has always been a problem with the court. As we move towards a court date there is something wrong with the court. Someone steals documents breaks-in and burns the court. Some people do not want this case to go ahead clearly," says McBride.
The former metro police boss faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, fraud and defeating the ends of justice after crashing his car in December 2006, while driving home from an office party.
Got something to say?
