Two gang members charged with the murder of a Tafelsig community crime fighter are set to appear in court on Wednesday.
The suspects, who are members of the Wonder Boys gang, based in Mitchells Plain, were taken into custody last week.
However, they were only charged with Mervyn Jacobs' murder on Tuesday.
Jacobs was shot dead while patrolling in Tafelsig earlier this month. Omar Hassen, who was with Jacobs at the time, was wounded in the incident.
Police also arrested a third suspect for giving investigators with false information.
Mitchells Plain Police Station commander Jeremy Veary told Eyewitness News it took a while to track down the suspects.
"What usually happens in any gang-related investigation is as you pick up the rest of the members of the gang and pressure gets to them, they suddenly supply you with perfect witnesses and the perfect substance to put you off focus, which is what happened in last week."
The Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum welcomed the breakthrough, but said its members would not rest until the killers of another local crime fighter, Vincent Naidoo, were found.
Naidoo, who was wheelchair-bound, was shot dead while sitting next to a bonfire in Westridge in September.
"Our next target will be to look at the issue of the Vincent Naidoo case and all of that, and hope that we will be able to resolve it as soon as possible," said CPF chairperson Michael Jacobs.
Jacobs added they would continue with their late-night bonfires to cut down on the drug trade and gangsterism in the area.
