There has been a shootout at Menlyn shopping centre in eastern Pretoria.

Eyewitnesses say it appears that a security guard has been shot and a suspect arrested.

It is understood gunmen targeted a bank in the centre.

Police are yet to confirm the incident.

"There was one security guy shot and one person arrested sitting on the pavement. The traffic is hectic in the area," said a motorist who was in the area.
