A truck was set alight in KwaZulu-Natal's Midlands area,
allegedly by a farmer who accused the driver of straying onto his
farm, police said on Thursday.
"It is alleged that the owner of the farm doused the cab of the
truck with the [flammable] liquid and set it alight, causing
extensive damages to the truck. He thereafter left the scene," said
spokesperson Inspector Joey Jeevan.
Dumisani Zuma was travelling in the Seven Oaks area on Wednesday
night when he had to turn to his destination.
"It is believed that whilst turning his truck, he drove over
another farmer's property. It is alleged that the owner of the
property, who had just arrived at the farm in his vehicle, noticed
Zuma driving over his property and confronted him."
During a "heated argument" the farmer removed Zuma's keys from
the truck.
"Zuma then climbed out of the truck and an argument between the
owner and Zuma ensued, with the owner threatening to burn his
truck."
The farmer left, returned with a container of flammable liquid
and allegedly set the truck alight.
"It is also believed that he asked the SAPS members performing
guard duties to leave his premises before setting the truck alight.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the
incident."
No arrests have been made. A senior public prosecutor would
decide whether charges would be laid.
