The wife of former policeman Marius van der Westhuizen said she will press ahead with divorce proceedings now that his trial is over.

Van der Westhuizen has been sentenced to 24 years in jail for the murder of his three children in 2006.

"The divorce proceedings have already been instituted some time ago in 2007 and... the pleadings has [sic] been closed but we're waiting for the allocation of a court date or a trial date," said Charlotte van der Westhuizen's lawyer, Gerhard van Niekerk.

Van der Westhuizen's bail of R5000 has been extended and he has been granted leave to appeal his conviction and sentence.
