The Director General of Education, Duncan Hindle, is "committed" to his task and has not resigned from his position, the Education Department said on Saturday.

This after reports that Hindle handed his resignation to Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga some weeks ago, as he was unhappy with the structure of the newly created education ministries.

"The Director General has not expressed any ?dissatisfaction? with the new setup and in fact has a very good working relationship with the Minister," said department spokeswoman Granville Whittle in a statement.

She said Hindle, who is also currently the acting Director General of Basic Education, will continue to serve the new administration and will assist to manage the transition into two departments in the best interest education.

"He will continue to serve in that capacity (and) is fully committed to the task. The status quo therefore remains."

The Higher Education and the Basic Education Ministries were created when the new administration took over in May.
