A Gauteng traffic officer has been killed in Reiger Park on the East Rand.

Authorities say Marvin Flagg who was part of the department's taxi conflict unit was shot dead on Saturday.

Officials believe his attacker is linked to the taxi industry.

"The provincial officer was intervening in a situation where, a motorist who is known and is also linked to the taxi industry had decided to park illegally on the road. Trying to get the driver to remove the vehicle, the officer was met with gun shots," explained the Gauteng Community Safety Department?s Sizwe Matshikiza.
