The Congress of the People says it is going to the Human Rights Commission about the personal attack launched on former cabinet minister Kader Asmal by the Umkkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association.

Last week, MK vets told Asmal to find the nearest cemetery and die after he criticised President Jacob Zuma's government.

Cope's Mvume Dandala said the party was worried about the declining human rights culture in South Africa.

"We have seen other eminent South Africans literally being taken apart in unbecoming ways for expressing their minds and the case of Professor Kader Asmal recently."

The organisation is also planning on complaining to the HRC about changes to the Criminal Procedure Act which will see police officers shooting to kill.

Dandala said it would ask the public protector to investigate Police Minister Nathi Mtethwa's wasteful expenditure.
