Police are searching for three bogus police officers, who held up tourists on the N3 highway.

The visitors were travelling to Sandton in an airport shuttle, when they were forced off the road.

The driver says the robbers showed what appeared to be genuine police badges.

"We all know it is shoot to kill"

"As we all know it is shoot to kill, if I did not stop they would have fired at us. Anyone can just go get a badge and show us while driving and you will have to stop because you have to no choice," says the driver.

They then searched the tourist's luggage claiming they had received a tip off from airport authorities, that their bags were filled with drugs.

The driver says during the search one of the suspects found foreign currency.

"He got most of the money and he started running back to the car and fled off with other two occupants in the car," he says.

The tourists were then taken to the Sandton Police Station where a charge of armed robbery has been laid.
