A man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly killing traffic officer Marvin Flagg over the weekend, the department of community safety said.

"A man suspected to have killed Gauteng traffic officer Marvin Flagg over the weekend was arrested at 2am this morning at a townhouse in Mondeor," spokesperson Sizwe Matshikiza said.

"Two pistols have been recovered in a separate location in Denmore, both the service pistol belonging to the officer and another suspected to have been used in the commission of the gruesome act."

Gauteng MEC for community safety Khabisi Mosunkutu commended the swift action of police.

"The MEC will further elaborate on the arrest and ongoing investigations by Wednesday."

Flagg was shot in Reiger Park on Saturday morning after he asked the occupants of an illegally parked vehicle to move off the road.
