Leigh Matthews's mother has slammed her daughter's killer for trying to appeal his sentence.

The Johannesburg student was killed in 2004 and her body was found several days after she was abducted from college.

Donovan Moodley, who admitted to killing the young woman, believes he should not spend the rest of his life behind bars because he did not plan to kill the 20-year-old.

He also believes the judge was biased accusing him of translating the media frenzy surrounding the murder into interests of society.

"We are horrified"

Sharon Matthews on Tuesday morning said Moodley must accept his punishment.

"I think it is horrific that he can waste the court's time. He seems to forget that he was also up on a kidnapping charge as well as extortion, so we are horrified that this is happening," said Matthews.
