President Jacob Zuma will this weekend visit Mpumalanga ? site of a number of service delivery protests in past months.

The ANC's national working committee (NWC), led by Zuma, would visit the province on Sunday, 1 November, the party said in a statement.

"The main objective of the visit is to interact with ANC branch members, get views on the nature of community concerns at local level and get a sense of underlying causes of the wave of recent protests," it said.

NWC members would address regional general councils at Bohlabelo, Nkangala, Ehlanzeni and Gert Sibande.

The visit formed part of the party's programme to engage with its structures and identify problems.

The Lekwa Municipality in Standerton was the most recent to be placed under administration in the province.

The mayor and councillors were removed by the ANC, which had to intervene in week-long service delivery protests.
