The Freedom Front Plus has strongly denied opposing integration at the Free State University but said it tried to stop the initiative because students were not consulted properly.
The institution?s former rector Professor Frederick Fourie revealed on Thursday he tried to integrate hostels in 2007 before the Reitz racist video emerged but was frustrated by a Freedom Front Plus campaign.
The ANC condemned the party?s actions.
Eyewitness News tried several times to get comment from the party before reporting on Fourie?s comments.
The party?s parliamentary leader Pieter Groenewald said they were not opposed to integration but were unhappy with the process.
?There are certain realities in South Africa but they say quite clearly, consult with all the people and don?t force integration.?
The ANC said it was angry at the party?s role in what happened even though Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Mulder is in government.
UFS grateful for Malema's backing
The Free State University said it was pleased ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema publically backed its Vice Chancellor Jonathan Jansen.
Malema met with Jansen on Thursday before telling students in Bloemfontein Jansen must stay in office because he was one of their own.
This is despite Malema?s anger at Jansen?s decision to pardon the white producers of a racist video.
Got something to say?
