Management at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town says security at the centre can't be held responsible for a couple getting mugged after visiting the mall.

The pair were approached by a stranger in the underground parking lot at the Waterfront on Friday night.

It's believed the couple agreed to give the man a lift to Green Point, where he mugged them.

On Sunday, V&A Waterfront spokesperson Chantelle Kidd said the centre can't be held responsible.

"They willingly offered him a lift and when they arrived in Green Point, the man unfortunately robbed them," she said.

"But they willingly offered the man a lift and this is in no way a reflection on security at the shopping centre."
