The South Gauteng High Court was expected to hear an application from Jackie Selebi's lawyers to formally complain about the prosecution in the case.
In what appeared to be another legal ploy, Selebi's advocate tried to bring the application for a special entry on Monday, but the matter had yet to be heard.
The special entry would allow the defence to formally complain about the prosecution's handling of the case — particularly its tardiness in handing over documents.
This strategy could either be intended to get better co-operation from the State or yet another attempt to lay the groundwork for an anticipated appeal in the event of a conviction.
Animosity between the two sides came to a head on Monday, as Gerrie Nel and Jaap Cillier bickered over whether certain documents had been handed over.
The trial had so far been characterised by seemingly relentless acrimony and it was likely to get worse as the matter rumbled on.
Last week, Selebi lost his bid to get Judge Meyer Joffe to recuse himself from the trial.
