Allan Boesak has resigned from the Congress of the People and has tendered his resignation as a member of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature with immediate effect.

A statement from Boesak's office said the Speaker of the House received an official communication confirming the latter.

Boesak said Cope in the Western Cape continued to be in disarray and was characterised by faction fighting, strife, pitched battles for political supremacy and duplicity.
