Cape Town's so-called Vice Squad has vowed it will crack the whip on illicit brothels operating in Goodwood.

Authorities say illegal shebeens and prostitution have mushroomed along Voortekker road, which runs from Maitland to Bellville.

Earlier this week, the body of a Chinese sex worker was discovered in a flat in Goodwood.

There has been speculation that she may have been killed by a client, but this has not been confirmed by police.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith says they are determined to crack down on prostitution in the area.

"Goodwood, Parow, Belville main road is an area that has seen very high levels of prostitution and street walkers; an area that the city is particularly concerned about and gets most of its complaints about; an area that we have invested a lot of energy on," says Smith.
