Fresh allegations of sexual abuse have emerged at the Central Methodist Church in Johannesburg.

The claims emerged at a public meeting in the Gauteng Legislature.

Eyewitness News first revealed such allegations two months ago prompting swift action by local government, NGOs and others.

There were gasps in the room as one of the Health and Social Development Portfolio Committee members told the meeting they had witnessed young girls having intercourse with older men.

This was during an early morning visit to the church by the portfolio committee a week ago.

Another told the meeting how young girls would be proposed to by boys and men and if they refused they would face possible gang rape.

The committee proposed the church be closed down, adding women and children must be removed by the middle of next month.
