As uncertainty over Jacob Maroga's position as CEO at Eskom continues on Monday morning, it is understood President Jacob Zuma has now stepped in to deal with the dispute.

Last week, Eskom Chair Bobby Godsell told his staff that Maroga had resigned. No one would confirm the meeting on the record but it is understood that Godsell met Zuma on Sunday.

The main issue is how to solve the dispute between the board and Maroga.

Presidency officials would only say that Zuma is concerned about what is happening at Eskom because of its key position in the economy and its lack of enough generating capacity.

It is not known at this stage if Zuma has also met with Maroga, but he will want a speedy end to the saga before it can do any more damage to the parastatal.
