The Police Ministry says the scheduled meeting with the National Press Club last week was not cancelled but merely postponed.
Allegations of a turf war between Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa and his deputy Fikile Mbalula, who was scheduled to address the Press Club, surfaced at the weekend.
Mbalula was due to speak on 2010 security and the African National Congress, pre- and post-Polokwane but he cancelled after his boss apparently intervened.
The minister apparently insisted National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele attend instead.
National Press Club Head Yusuf Abramjee said there was no political pressure on them to cancel.
"He requested to cancel and postpone and reschedule the event. The National Press Club will not give in to any political pressure from anyone," he said.
The ministry insisted the event was cancelled ahead of a Justice Crime Prevention and Security media briefing which will address certain issues next week.
Got something to say?
