Cape Town Disaster Risk Management says its teams are on standby should persistent downpours cause flooding.

It says it will continue mopping up operations and assisting with humanitarian aid in the most flood affected informal settlements.

A number of residents in Phillipi were left destitute after their homes were flooded on Monday.

Officials handed out blankets and food parcels to residents while in other areas work got underway to fix blocked storm water drainage systems.

Disaster Risk Mangement's Wilfred Solomons-Johannes says the rain's impact was not as hard felt.

"No infrastructure damage has been reported across the city and this can be contributed to the City's continuous repairs and maintenance programme of its storm water systems and canals and catchment area."
