One man was killed after his vehicle ploughed into a piece of equipment used for road-works on the N3, Durban paramedics said on Wednesday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said the man, who was driving a VW Transporter, was apparently going around a bend when he crashed into the equipment on the Pietermaritzburg-bound carriageway between Lions River and Balgowan.

The man was found dead in his vehicle.

Paramedics and firefighters extricated his body from the car.

Meanwhile, two kilometres from the accident a truck overturned.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
