A mother flung her four-month-baby from a high rise building before jumping from the building herself in Durban on Wednesday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

"A woman threw her child from the 11th floor and then committed suicide by jumping from the same floor. They both died," said Captain Khephu Ndlovu.

The reason for the woman's actions was not known.
