The City of Cape Town is planning to establish specialised drug courts.
Mayoral Committee Member for Social Development Grant Pascoe made the announcement on Wednesday, while speaking at the launch of a drug treatment clinic in Delft.
The clinic is the third of its kind in Cape Town.
Pascoe said the first two facilities in Tafelsig and Tableview have helped hundreds of addicts kick their habit.
He added drug courts will help ensure rehabilitated addicts receive appropriate assistance.
"Drug courts will ensure that those who fit the criteria are diverted from the normal court system into avenues where they can receive the help that they need to become fully functional members of society once again."
