SANDF corporal shot dead

An SA National Defence Force Corporal died after being accidentally shot during a training exercise in Oudtshoorn, the Ministry of Defence said on Friday.

Spokesperson Colonel Petrus Motlhabane said the accident happened on Thursday at 9.35am during crowd control training at Kansas Vlakte in Oudtshoorn.

"One of the learners shot Corporal Tuis Dimakatso Malitisi (36) of Regiment Christiaan Beyers in Polokwane.

"The corporal was immediately evacuated to Oudtshoorn provincial hospital and was declared dead on arrival."

Motlhabane said that a police and SANDF investigation had been set up.

Senior defence force officials including Minister Lindiwe Sisulu have expressed their condolences to the family and friends of Malitisi.
