Eight men have been arrested following a robbery at a Westonaria shopping centre on Johannesburg's West Rand, on Sunday.
It is understood the gang entered a Jet store in the mall and held staff at gunpoint.
The gang tried to flee in a white combi but the police's Noxolo Kweza says officials gave chase and caught the suspects.
"The suspects were cornered and a shootout ensued between police and suspects. No police officer was injured and investigations are continuing," says Kweza.
A well-known American base-jumper broke both his legs in an attempted jump off Table Mountain.
"They have no control of the car," said a man who witnessed a fatal car crash in Plumstead.
A 25-year-old surfer has been killed by a shark at Port St Johns Second Beach in the Eastern Cape.
