A woman, who was flung 60 metres from a bridge during a hijacking in Durban, was recuperating in hospital, reported news24.com on Monday.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Derek Chetty said the 26-year-old woman sustained seven fractured ribs, a fractured pelvis and injuries to the lower spine.

She is currently recovering in the intensive care unit at St Augustine hospital.

Kavisha Seevnarain told her parents that she was followed by a green Opel Astra while travelling from Pinetown to Shallcross in Durban between 9pm and 10pm on Friday.

When she stopped at an intersection, a man jumped out of the car, smashed her driver's door window and pulled her out.

She was forced into the Opel at gun point and the robbers took her to various ATM's in Chesterville and Umlazi, while their two accomplices followed them in Seevnarain's Mercedes Benz.

The men stopped at shebeens for drinks before they drove her to the N2 bridge in Umkomaas, south of Durban, from where they flung her at around 2am on Saturday.

She managed to crawl onto a sand bank under the bridge until she was spotted by a passer-by.

No arrests had been made since the incident and a case of hijacking and attempted murder was being investigated, said Chetty.
