The City of Johannesburg has announced it is temporarily withdrawing a route from the BRT Rea Vaya Project in the Johannesburg city centre.

The Inner City Circular Route will be available from Wednesday.

This comes after poor patronage from vendors selling tickets in the city centre.

It was linked to allegations of intimidation and challenges with traffic law enforcement.

At least 200 passengers are making use of the service.

"For a variety of reasons, we have taken the decision that it might be more sensible to re-introduce both routes at the point at which the full phase 1A service will run next year but for now the trunk routes continue to run," said the city's Mayoral Committee Member on Transport Rehana Moosajee.
