The Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto)
has not yet been implemented despite rumours to the contrary, the
Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said on Monday.
"The RTMC would like to dismiss the false claim that is
currently maintained in some e-mails making rounds that the Aarto
is now running countrywide since last night," the RTMC said in a
statement.
"This has caused an unnecessary panic to the members of the
public and is utterly untrue."
The programme is a new system of traffic fines and penalties
currently being piloted in Pretoria and Johannesburg.
The RTMC said a nationwide roll-out would happen, but that the
public would be notified in advance.
