Thousands of speeding fines issued by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department may be invalid and many more speedsters could be let off the hook.

It follows a court ruling this week in which a motorist who was caught speeding on camera was acquitted of all charges because of a JMPD bungle.

The Randburg Magistrate's Court found the JMPD had violated a set of compulsory prosecution guidelines known as the TCSP when trapping Anthony O'Moore in August.

"The traffic officers did not comply with TCSP guidelines and it would appear they have not been doing so for very long time," the Justice Project South Africa?s Howard Dembovsky explained.
