Gauteng residents can expect a reprieve from the rainy weather soon.

While temperatures will remain low this weekend, forecasters say the rain will abate by Saturday afternoon.

Persistent rainfall in parts of the province has caused traffic problems and accidents in recent days.

The wet weather was also partially to blame for some of the power cuts in and around Johannesburg on Friday.

The weather service's Evert Scholtz says things are looking brighter.

"For Sunday, cloudy in the morning with hot patches, otherwise just partly cloudy and we will see some sun for a change on Sunday with temperatures slightly higher. For the cricket, a perfect cricket day, on the cool side though," he said.

He says temperatures will start picking up next week with rain only expected again on Thursday.
