A 40-year-old policeman was arrested for allegedly raping an awaiting trial prisoner in Mthatha, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.
Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said the female prisoner reported the alleged rape to the police on Sunday evening. The policeman was arrested on Monday morning.
The policeman, from the Mthatha central police station, took the woman out of the cell and allegedly raped her in one of the offices.
The 40-year-old would appear in the Mthatha Magistrate's Court soon.
People who refuse to take part in the Census will be sent to prison or face a fine of R10 000.
