As police investigate an assassination attempt on former Ekurhuleni metro police chief Robert McBride, it has emerged documents mysteriously disappeared from his vehicle in Midrand last week.
The controversial figure is currently on trial facing drunk driving charges and defeating the ends of justice following his near fatal crash in 2006.
It is believed his brakes may have been tampered with weeks before the accident.
McBride said the disappearance of documents from his vehicle was further proof that someone was trying to get to him.
Last Wednesday night he was meant to attend a meeting to hand over the papers, but it was cancelled at the last minute. The documents were stolen on the same night.
The incident has led McBride to suspect that his cellphone conversations were being monitored.
"I am a bit suspicious about it, the way it happened."
He added he suspected that someone has been trying to kill him for a while now after his investigation into the multi-million rand Meyersdal land deal, but developer Rian Booysen refuted McBride's claims that the deal is crooked.
Boyseen insisted the land deal was above board.
Got something to say?
